Linux

You may find Linux based applications for download here in the future. For now this is an article on the Linux based Ubuntu operating system. I run Windows Vista on my home computer and I was planning on loading Ubuntu onto a slave drive, this way I would not have to partition my current hard drive and risk losing any data.

I discovered that for Windows users, intalling Ubuntu is extremly simple. To download Ubuntu or any other similar Linux operating system (Such as kubuntu, xubuntu, etc...) to a Windows computer a program called wubi can be used. The program will download and configure Ubuntu for you without having to partition your drive. Whenever you start your computer you then have the option of booting into Ubuntu or Windows.

When I booted into Ubuntu for the first time you must login with a username and password that you configured during wubi installation. You are greeted with the pleasant sound of a bongo style drum roll. The operating system comes default with Open Office which is entirely free and is compatible with Microsoft Office Documents.

To download Ubuntu onto a computer that doesn't run Windows, simply burn Ubuntu to a CD. You can find all the information you need here.

Ubuntu is a very stable computer operating system which feels very similar to Mac, only its open source! If you really wanted to you could motify your system or create your own Linux applications. I have only been using Linux for a couple days and I have loved it since.
